Alex Lippitt

Managing Partner, Portfolio Management

"Curiosity is what drives innovation. I was trained to question every assumption and stress-test every strategy. That discipline is what we bring to every portfolio we build."

Backstory

Alex earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Colorado College and his Master of Science in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago.

At Chicago, Alex learned to think about portfolio construction the way institutions do: not as an allocation exercise, but as a problem of matching assets to obligations across time and through market cycles. That training is the mathematical foundation of the lifestyle number and the two-allocation architecture at the core of every Lakewood portfolio.

Alex spent twelve years at Transamerica as a multi-asset derivatives trader, executing and managing hedging strategies for institutional portfolios. Insurance companies manage capital against long-term obligations measured in decades.

Alex implemented this liability management discipline for twelve years inside one of the institutions that depends on it. That is exactly the framework Lakewood applies to individual families.

When the partners' prior firm was acquired by a private-equity-backed platform, Alex chose to bring that institutional capability to a boutique practice where it could be applied with the precision and personalization that institutional clients expect but individual families rarely receive. At Lakewood, he designs and executes custom portfolio allocations and options strategies in-house, directly inside every client portfolio, without outsourcing, without third-party products, and without an additional cost layer. That is the edge he built Lakewood to deliver.

Alex lives in Evanston, Illinois with his wife Melissa and their two daughters, Alice and Pearl. He spends his time outside the office playing soccer and basketball with his daughters, volunteering in his local synagogue community, and sailing on Lake Michigan, where he is working his way through the American Sailing Association certification courses.
